Newsletter: Toxic Pet Treat Alert Sept 2012

Special Email Alert - Toxic Pet Treats & Kidneys Failure

In case you have not heard, we wish to once again alert our customers of a recent pet treat toxicity problem. There is no official pet food recall but pets have experienced kidneys failure and death as a result of eating pet treats made in China - chicken, duck, sweet potato, possibly other varieties.

Pets in Canada and USA are found to be affected, and other countries where these jerky treats are sold but likely under different brand and company names could also be affected. Some of these pet treats are identified as jerky treats while others are tenders, strips, chips, wraps, twists and other descriptions.

Pet food companies named so far are Nestle Purina PetCare Co. and Del Monte, brands suspected so far are:

  • Waggin Train Jerky Bites
  • Canyon Creek Ranch Natural Chicken Tenders
  • Milo's Kitchen Home Style Dog Treats
  • Beefeaters Sweet Potato Snacks for Dogs
  • Dogswell Veggie Life Vitality
  • Kingdom Pets
  • Blue Buffalo

Symptoms after eating these treats are one or several of the following, but not limited to:

  • loss of appetite
  • low energy, decreased activity
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea with or without blood
  • increased thirst
  • increased urination
  • urinary leaking
  • seizures
  • elevated liver enzymes
  • acidosis
  • sugar in the urine
  • elevated kidneys enzymes
  • acute kidneys failure
  • death

Survival rate with conventional vet treatment alone has been low. We do have good success rate with acute kidneys failure via our Distant Pet Healing Therapy, especially in combination with fluids therapy at your local vet hospital.

A good short article on this is at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2192116/Plants-China-produce-U-S-dog-treats-blamed-killing-thousands-pets-refuse-let-FDA-inspectors-collect-samples.html Main Online News.

Go to the FDA site http://www.fda.gov/AnimalVeterinary/SafetyHealth/ProductSafetyInformation/ucm295445.htm#Advice_to_Pet_Owners_and_Consumers for their official position.

There is a good 30-min Canadian documentary that talks about this with affected pet owners and done some of their own testing http://www.cbc.ca/marketplace/ titled "Marketplace: Fighting for Fido".

At Gentlecare Natural Pet Products, we do not sell any pet food or treats. We specialize in holistic pet remedies, pet wellness consultation and distant pet therapy. Our suggestion for pet parents is to AVOID ALL pet food, pet treats, pet medicine made in China, not just jerky pet treats.

It becomes tricky when the label says 'Made in Your Own Country' but the product contains some or all ingredients from China. It is legal to say something is Made in USA or Made in Canada (for example) when the products are packaged within the country but 100% made in China (or elsewhere). For this reason, we suggest you avoid all pet treats and pet food except from your most trusted local small companies.

If you still think I am an alarmist, let me tell you a short story. One pet food company in China was recently charged with fraud, selling pet food inside China with MEAT as the first ingredient when there is NO MEAT AT ALL found upon testing.

If this is not enough reason to make your own balanced, natural, human grade pet food, then at least buy from local medium to small pet food and pet treat companies. Remember, the label 'Natural', 'No Chemicals' and 'Meat' have no meaning to people with no conscience.

You can trust people but don't trust marketing alone. Develop your gut feel or intuition so you can tell if a person is trustworthy or is deceiving you. Your intuition can tell whether a person's vibration is of truth or not. Trust your instincts. Then do business with people with truth vibration.

If you are concerned with your pet's diet or deteriorating kidneys, our Holistic Pet Wellness Consultation will be your best option to get an experienced pet nutritional expert to custom design a diet that is suitable for your pet's unique health condition and assist your pet health when vet's help is not enough.

In good health, Pearl Kam, Pet Wellness Coach.
