Holistic Pet Remedies: Mange Mite, Scabies, Ringworm, Fungus
Most people think parasites and fungus are pests of nature and it is just plain unlucky if their pet gets infested. The dog, cat, horse, rabbit or hamster becomes victim of these pests.
That is actually very unscientific thinking. In nature, healthy animals (including human) do not get infestation. Sure, a bobcat may get a few fleas, mites or mosquitoes investigating him or her; however, its healthy immune system will not attract enough parasites to cause serious problem. The signals a healthy animal emit - chemically, energetically and physically - do not call for parasites to do their job.
An underdeveloped immune system (young animals) or a weak, sick and confused immune system will attract plenty of parasites, fungus, bacteria or virus, depending on the pH and emotional imbalance within. The more imbalances, the more germs mutate and reproduce to become the pests that nature needs to cleanup the organism (your pet). In very weak pets, the pests will even destroy the host as nature intends it. Since this is not what we want, we need to rebalance your pet's bio-terrain so it will send out different signals to the parasites.
Mange or scabies is the result of spider mites burrowing under the skin. Tick is also a mite. Ringworm is actually a fungus, the lesions are ring-shaped. Bacterial dermatitis (furunculosis) can be acute or chronic. Nocardiosis is bacterial, usually infects a granuloma. Ear mites, ear infection, otorrhoea, eczema, dermatitis and puritis can all be the result of mites, bacteria, fungus, virus, other parasites or a combination of them. Treatment methods are similar.
Follicular or dermodex mange - squamous type: Prefers young animals. Hair falls out, skin is dry and scaly, bluish discoloration. Itchy.
Follicular or dermodex mange - pustular type: Small pustules are developed at the hair follicle, often around the jaw, elbows and ankles. Lesions, crusts with pus.
Sarcoptic mange: More common, contagious and resembles human scabies (though not the same). Skin is severely itchy and irritated, resulting in animals biting, licking and scratching to the point of bleeding and hair loss. Small pimples are common which become scabby. A musty odour is present. Untreated, skin becomes thickened and looks folded like elephant skin.
Otodectic mange: Prefers cats but dogs are not immune. Lives in the ears. Your pet may have brownish wax, shake and rub the ears a lot and may have blood, scabs or lesions behind the ear flap due to intense scratching.
Ringworm: Most common fungi responsible are microsporum and trichophyton. There is a natural affinity with the hair follicles. There may be a crusty appearance, vesicles, circular or ring-like lesions, raised scabs with a darker pitted centre.
Bacterial dermatitis: Staphylococcal and streptococcal families are most common culprits but may include other microorganisms. You may observe itchy rash, swelling, vesicles, erupted vesicles with fluid and pus, skin scratched raw, thickens and becomes folded (elephant skin). Bacterial infection can occur as other parasites open the skin surface to such opportunity.
In severe cases, mange can cause major skin damage, blood loss, anemia, infection, fever, progressive weakness and even death. Untreated, your pet can become vulnerable to more parasites and pathogens which form an undesirable snowball effect.
There are five things that must be done to reverse the trend of parasitic invasion:
- First, excess parasites, fungus, bacteria and viruses must be killed to give your pet an opportunity to rebuild his/her health.
- Second, damages cause by parasites and pathogens must be healed to regain strength and temporary wholeness.
- Third, toxins must be cleared from your pet's body that created the imbalance biochemistry within its own terrain. Further toxins must be avoided (processed pet food, vaccinations, chemical drugs). If not possible, in the case of necessary surgery, detox afterwards to clear them out of your pet's system.
- Fourth, nutritional supplements need to be given to rebuild your pet's body and immune defense.
- Lastly, any emotional imbalances (stress) must be rebalanced to regain full health.

CASE STUDY
Case: Four dogs of different ages, golden retrievers, same household, have been itching. No fleas found. They have been on a raw dog food diet for years, no known allergies. Finally, the animal guardians suspect mites (which is rather common and often mistaken as skin allergy).
They bathe the dogs with WildPets Skin Trouble Natural Shampoo once. After they dry, apply the WildPets Skin Trouble Duster once. Next day, to their surprise and amazement, all four dogs are no longer itchy.
"That (mites & itchy) problem has resolved quite well. I feel good about the products."
Wendy G. - Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada
Case: PeKay, a male cat, 1.5 year old, was very itchy with mange mites. The person had tried sulfur cream and other online products with short term effects. The animal guardian purchased WildPets Skin Trouble Shampoo, WildPets Skin Trouble Spray & WildPets BIO D-Tox and was waiting for the products in transit. However, PeKay was so itchy that the person asked me if I can help her cat before the products arrive. So we did long distance healing sending the same remedies in the WildPets Skin Trouble Spray to Pekay.
Update on the 2nd day: "Pekay seems calmer, happier, less agitated."
On the 3rd day: "Pekay is doing great! Happier, spending time with us. Sores and itching improving. What a blessing."
Two months later: "Pekay is doing good. His fur is growing back and he is happier. He almost finished one month detox, got over the healing crisis, and things are going good. Thank you!"

HEALING TIPS
- Consider switching to human-grade raw, semi-raw or cooked diet (organic raw is best). Feed your pets as much "live" foods as possible, there is very little life force in processed foods.
- If your dog or cat is a fussy eater, try unseasoned cooked chicken (or turkey, ground lamb, ground beef, boneless cooked fish), real chicken soup, mashed pumpkin (any fibrous squash) and steamed rice initially to stimulate appetite and help settle the stomach. Add mashed broccoli later for added nutrients. Feel free to give grated raw or cooked veggies and fruit pieces (organic best, avoid nightshade veggies) that your pet enjoys and that his/her tummy can handle. Add new diet 25% at a time, 3-4 days at a time, to switch over.
- Most insects and parasites prefer hosts that have a weak immune system and life force. They can tell by the odour and energy emitted by the host animal. It's the same reason why some people don't get bitten much while others get eaten alive! Build up your pet's immune system and biological terrain with our herbal and nutritional supplements.
- Probiotics (WildPets G.I. Revitalizer) is essential to rebuild stomach bacteria destroyed by pathogens, parasites, chemical antibiotics, drugs and processed pet food.
- Clean your home and bedding thoroughly with very hot water and soap if there are parasites. Steam clean carpet. Vaccuum and clean bedding regularly to reduce extent of infestation.
- Use holistic remedies and therapies whenever possible. Avoid surgery if possible. Avoid vaccinations, chemical flea and dewormer programs, and chemical flea home treatment (see our Flea page for more info).
- Regular detox is essential to good body house-keeping. Detox twice a year for optimum maintenance.
- Good pack or herd rules, clear boundaries, lots of love, play, fun, exercise, sunlight and rest will keep your dogs, cats, horses and other pet animals at the peak of their spirit!
Note: Response to remedies and supplements varies by individual. If these products do not give complete healing, your pet may need individual attention through our long distance pet healing service or consultation with a veterinarian.
