Case: Multiple cats with fleas.

Case: Four dogs of different ages, golden retrievers, same household, have been itching. No fleas found. They have been on a raw dog food diet for years, no known allergies. Finally, the animal guardians suspect mites (which is rather common and often mistaken as skin allergy).

1. Check all pets in the same household for flea and parasite signs and symptoms. Treat as needed. With ticks, you may want a veterinarian to help carefully remove entire ticks with tweezers.

2. Build up your pet's immune system and biological terrain:

• Feed your pets as much "live" foods as possible, there is very little life force in processed foods. Organic raw meat with cooked veggies is best, semi-raw or cooked meat and veggies with supplements is a good alternative. If your pet likes it, organic fruits can be a real treat! Add mashed pumpkin and/or steamed rice to firm up loose stools.
• Avoid vaccinations, chemical flea and worm programs. Avoid surgery and drugs as much as you can. Detox twice a year.

3. Treat all indoor environment - home, car, pet house, garage, where ever the pet frequents:

• Wash all bedding in hot, soapy water regularly.
• Vacuum all carpets and rugs regularly, then throw away the vacuum bag.
• Steam clean the carpet.
• Purchase a natural, organic product that kills adult fleas and the larvae in various life stages. An orange (citrus) peel extract with borax can be very effective. I have seen them in trade shows, shoppings malls, organic food stores and some hardware stores.
• Alternatively, hire an eco-exterminator who uses orange peel extract with borax to kill the fleas in your home (you can actually stay home while they do this). Regular exterminator uses a "mild nerve gas" and is harmful to both human and pets (you will need to leave your home and put away all food and dishes, and the exterminator wears a protective suit while applying this toxic stuff to your home!).
